About Us

Finding Inspiration in Every Turn

Alakaʻi Sports Foundation Hawaiʻi began with a love of horses, polo, and community. In 2019, our founders Corrie and Khai Agon launched Hawaiʻi Therapeutic Horseback Riding (HTHR) at the Honolulu Polo Club in Waimānalo. With over 20 horses under their care, they partnered with schools like Olomana School and Waimānalo Elementary & Intermediate to give kids hands-on experiences—teaching them how to groom, tack, and ride horses, and eventually play polo in a real match.

Through this work, Khai also offered horseback riding opportunities for Wounded Warriors and their families at Bellows Air Force Base, creating a healing space for military personnel and children affected by PTSD and other challenges. The program built confidence, connection, and joy for countless participants.

Like many small nonprofits, HTHR was deeply impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. But instead of closing the chapter, Corrie and Khai chose to evolve the mission.

Expanding Our Vision

In 2023, HTHR transitioned into Alakaʻi Sports Foundation Hawaiʻi, broadening its scope to help keiki across Oʻahu and beyond. Drawing from Corrie’s lifelong background in outrigger canoe paddling, the foundation turned its focus toward breaking down financial barriers in youth sports.

Our goal is simple: to ensure that no child misses out on the opportunity to participate in sports because of cost. Whether it’s helping with travel, equipment, club dues, or entry fees, we believe that every keiki deserves a chance to thrive through athletics, culture, and teamwork.

Our Impact So Far

  • Scholarships provided to Healani Canoe Club, Leeward Kai Canoe Club, and Kailua Canoe Club to support keiki with membership dues.

  • A $500 scholarship awarded to a Kailua Canoe Club paddler to help him offset costs as he pursued college volleyball.

  • Currently working to raise funds to cover all junior crews’ entry fees for the world-renowned Molokaʻi to Oʻahu races—Nā Wāhine O Ke Kai and Molokaʻi Hoe.

Looking Ahead
We dream of growing Alakaʻi Sports Foundation Hawaiʻi to provide:

  • Financial assistance to every keiki who paddles on Oʻahu.

  • Paddles and equipment for junior athletes.

  • Expanded support into other sports and activities—empowering more children to chase their goals, build resilience, and stay active for life.

At Alakaʻi, we believe sports are more than games—they are pathways to confidence, leadership, cultural pride, and community.
